The show takes place after the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (pictured). Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) has retired as Captain America, in an attempt to live a simple life in an alternate reality with his love, Peggy Carter. Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) has picked up the Captain’s shield. The trailer shows the Falcon and Cap’s best friend Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) in a tussle and some familiar faces are back in what appears to be an action-filled setting. Here we’ll take a look at all the key players in the show set to drop on March 19 on Disney+.

Anthony Mackie as the Falcon and Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier: At the end of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, Mackie’s Sam Wilson (Falcon) was left Cap’s Shield by Rogers himself and the series will see him grapple with the mantle bestowed on him. The tension between him and Stan’s Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier) possibly stems from the fact that Rogers picked Wilson over Barnes, but it looks like they’re working through the uncomfortable feelings. Yay for mediation!

Daniel Bruhl as Helmut Zemo: Daniel Bruhl returns as Helmut Zemo, the former Sokovian intelligence officer who blamed the Avengers for the death of his family and, in ‘Captain America: Civil War’, concocted a plot to turn Iron Man and Captain America against each other in order to destroy the team. Zemo will finally be wearing his purple mask from the comics, after skipping it in Civil War.

Wyatt Russell as John Walker/US Agent: Wyatt Russell will play John Walker, who it looks like will be dubbed the new Captain America — or perhaps US Agent, one of his names in the comics — by the US government in their attempt to present a Cap successor to the public. The fact that they’re picking a non-Avenger to be Cap’s successor, ignoring his personal wishes, is a big tell.

Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13: Emily VanCamp will once again play Sharon Carter — aka Agent 13. The niece of SHIELD founder Peggy Carter, Agent 13 previously helped Steve Rogers, Wilson and Barnes when the latter was framed for a terrorist bombing by Helmut Zemo. It is unclear what her role maybe in this series. Given her previous attachment to Rogers, she may just be a useful ally to the boys. However, flipping that point, she may also be working for the new government-employed Cap replacement, the US Agent.

Erin Kellyman as Flag-Smasher: Erin Kellyman, who famously played Enfys Nest in ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’, is part of the series as a solider for what appears to be the Flag Smashers. In the comics, the Flag-Smasher is a singular entity. Creator Mark Gruenwald originated Flag-Smasher in 1985 as a character in the tradition of the Red Skull: a villain with an ideology that would put him in direct conflict with Captain America. Whereas the Red Skull symbolises Nazism, Flag-Smasher symbolises anti-patriotism. In ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’, it appears that they’ve reimagined the character into an anti-imperailaist terrorist organization, and while the Cap is no more, their new target might be Walker/US Agent.
