Beyonce, who was born and raised in Houston, Texas, is helping people through her BeyGOOD foundation. A post on her Instagram Story encouraged people to apply for assistance. The initiative, a collaboration with Adidas and charity organisation Bread of Life, will provide grants of up to $1,000 to those in need.

Another Texas native, Matthew McConaughey, wrote on Twitter: “I am sending prayers of resilience and the humanity of the helping hand out to all Texans that are struggling with the freeze.” He included options for aid. “I have reached out to help @mealsonwheels, @AAULTX, @BGCAustin For more information on resources, how you can help or to donate tap the links above,” he added.

Actress Kerry Washington posted a picture with information on Instagram and wrote: “Texas needs our help. There are organizations on the ground that need our assistance in helping Texans stay warm and safe. Donate, call, share, volunteer, pray. Whatever you can do to help!”

Comedian and actor Patton Oswalt wrote a scathing tweet slamming the “greed” of some people. “I’ve performed all over Texas. I love that state. And I HATE that this is happening to its residents because of short-sighted greed. The pendulum has got to swing HARD the other way, for everyone’s sake,” he said.
