Sean Connery death: Hollywood and Bollywood stars mourn loss of James Bond icon

As news of the death at age 90 of actor Sean Connery broke, reactions quickly began to pour in on social media to the passing of the first — and, to many, the best — onscreen James Bond. Here’s what stars from Hollywood and Bollywood had to say...

“Sir Sean Connery will be remembered as Bond and so much more,” Daniel Craig wrote, “He defined an era and a style. The wit and charm he portrayed on screen could be measured in mega watts; he helped create the modern blockbuster. He will continue to influence actors and film-makers alike for years to come. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones. Wherever he is, I hope there is a golf course.”

Hugh Jackman tweeted a photo of Connery as Bond, writing, “I grew up idolizing #SeanConnery. A legend on screen, and off. Rest In Peace.”

Sam Neill (left), who co-starred with Connery in the 1990 submarine thriller “The Hunt for Red October,” wrote, “Every day on set with Sean Connery was an object lesson in how to act on screen. But all that charisma and power — that was utterly unique to Sean.”

Director Edgar Wright wrote, “It says something for the extraordinary charisma of this Edinburgh lad to have created the most iconic character in film & then, rather than be typecast by it, become equally famous for just being Sean Connery.”

Calling him the ‘perfect Bond’, singer Lata Mangeshkar said: “Deeply saddened to hear, Sir Sean Connery is no more. The perfect Bond who enthralled the audiences and stood tall as one of the most charismatic personalities in the entertainment industry. Such legends come rare! Heartfelt condolences.”

Taking to Twitter, actor Hrithik Roshan thanked the legendary actor for inspiring people. “Sean Connery. Sir. Your legend will live on forever. Well done Sir. You won this life. thank you for inspiring us with the extent of your human potential. R.I.P,” he wrote.

Considering Connery the definition of ‘cool’, Randeep Hooda shared the picture of the actor alongside caption in which he wrote, “The man who defined “cool” before the word really meant anything besides temperature .. the only #JamesBond that was hard to live upto .. Sir #SeanConnery RIP Legend.”

Abhishek Bachchan said: “We’ve lost another legend today. After watching Highlander I hoped he’d remain immortal. He will live on through his immense work. #RIP Sean Connery. There will never be a better Bond than you.”
