The first 'Diner en Blanc' took place in 1988 after François Pasquier gathered a few friends on his return to France after living abroad. To find each other in the park, they all wore white.

Since everyone enjoyed the meal so much, they decided to invite more people the next year. The event evolved naturally over the years into the 10,000-person banquet it is today in Paris.
