Collaboration of the year: Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber, ‘10,000 Hours’. The Grammy-winning country duo Dan + Shay performed ‘I Should Probably Go to Bed’ at the show and also won favourite country duo or group and favourite country song for ‘10,000 Hours’.

Favourite pop/rock male artist: Justin Bieber. The singer and Shawn Mendes kicked off the AMAs with a pre-taped performance of their new duet ‘Monster’, marking the first time they performed the song together. It began with a stripped-down Bieber singing his recent hit ‘Lonely’, with songwriter-producer Benny Blanco on piano, and ‘Holy’, where background dancers wearing masks joined him.

Favourite pop/rock duo or group: BTS. The group BTS also won the award for favourite social artists, and closed the show with the first ever performance of their new song ‘Life Goes On’ and their chart-topping son ‘Dynamite’.

Favourite pop/rock song: Dua Lipa, ‘Don’t Start Now’. The popular singer took to the air — literally — for a performance of her song ‘Levitating’, that was beamed from Royal Albert Hall in London.

Favourite rap/hip-hop song: Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, ‘WAP’. There’s no surprise here that the iconic track ‘WAP’ won prize for favourite rap/hip-hop song. Megan Thee Stallion also performed ‘Body’ from her recently released debut album ‘Good News’.

Favourite soul/R&B male artist: The Weeknd. The singer was one of several artists who appeared live at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles for the fan-voted awards show. He also took home trophies for his album ‘After Hours’ and song ‘Heartless.’ He gave no reason for his bandaged appearance, which confused fans on social media, but appeared to be an artistic choice that started with his March album cover on which he sported a bloodied and broken nose.
