The New Year started on the shock announcement that Tamil star Dhanush and Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth were parting ways after 18 years of marriage. The actor made the announcement on social media in the late hours of January 17. “18 years of togetherness as friends, couple as parents and well wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting, and adapting. Today we stand at a place where our paths separate. Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better.” He ended the statement with asking fans to respect their decision and their need for privacy at this time. Film director Aishwaryaa, who is the elder daughter of megastar Rajinikanth, also shared a similar statement. News of their split has taken many by surprise considering Aishwaryaa put up a post less than three months ago with her famous father and her husband posing together with their Indian National Awards, while writing: “They are mine … and this is history #prouddaughter #proudwife.”

Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet also fell victim to the New Year blues, announcing on January 12 that with the “revolution unfolding” they were announcing their split after 16 years together. The ‘Aquaman’ star made the announcement official through a joint statement he released on his Instagram page. “We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding — and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring,” the statement read. “And so — We share our Family news — That we are parting ways in marriage. We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy — But so that as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty.” The couple further stated that even as the love between them carries on, “evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived,” they were choosing to free each other “to be who we are learning to become.” Momoa and Bonet maintained that decided the split, they remain devoted to their children, 14-year-old Lola Iolani Momoa and 13-year-old Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa.

On February 17, news broke that Hollywood actress Shailene Woodley and NFL player Aaron Rodgers split up a year after getting engaged, sources have said. “It was an amicable split; it just wasn’t working,” People magazine quoted a source as saying. “They’re very different people with busy careers and there were obstacles that they couldn’t surmount. They will remain friendly; there’s no bad blood and no drama. It just didn’t work out for them.” Neither Woodley or Rodgers have made an official statement about their alleged break-up.

While this news is yet to be confirmed by either party, reports have said that former One Direction member Zayn Malik and his partner, model Gigi Hadid, have broken up following the surprising news of an alleged assault. In October, TMZ reported that Malik had struck Hadid’s mother Yolanda during an argument. Malik told TMZ: “I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid. For the sake of my daughter I decline to give any further details.” The couple had an on-and-off relationship for years and share daughter Khai, who was born in September 2020.
