For more than a month, Bollywood actress Mouni Roy has been staying in Abu Dhabi at her best friend’s home and re-discovering the joys of life as she practices social distancing during Covid-19 pandemic. The actress was here for a brief vacation in Abu Dhabi, but decided to stay put when the travel restrictions came into place. “I am missing my family back home in India, but I am staying with my best friend Anisha and her loving family in Abu Dhabi. It has been so good,” said Roy in an exclusive interview with Gulf News.

The ‘Gold’ star, who has acted in movies starring Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Rajkummar Rao, was holidaying in Abu Dhabi when the COVID-19 restrictions came into place. She will soon be seen in director Ayaan Mukherji’s Brahmastra, also starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan.

The Bengal-born talent took the call to stay back in the UAE and has been keeping herself busy with meditation, Kathak and art during the national sterilization drive in this region. “I have cut a lot of bull and surround noise from my life … There’s no garbage in my life anymore …I am looking inwards now and I am content and at peace,” said Roy.

Roy made her debut in Akshay Kumar’s biopic Gold in 2018 and has starred in films including John Abraham’s Romeo Akbar Walter and Rajkummar Rao’s ‘Made In China’. She remembers a time when she auditioned for ‘Gold’ while was filming her TV series Naagin. “I borrowed my mother’s sari and wore that for the auditions during my lunch break. I had to tone down my make-up, because my character in Naagin wore heavy make-up,” said Roy in our exclusive chat.

Her role as a snake shifting woman in the hit TV series Naagin gave her notoriety and fame. She counts Ekta Kapoor, TV producer, as one of her mentors. “I love what I do and I am proud of the roles I have done so far,” said Roy.
