Why is Bollywood star Jacqueline Fernandez in trouble?

This morning, news broke that Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez has been named as an accused in the money laundering case against conman Sukesh Chandrashekar who faces charges of extortion.

But why is Jacqueline Fernandez in trouble with the law? It all began when Jacqueline, known for her cheerful personality, became acquainted with Suresh Chandrashekhar. He began showering her with lavish gifts purchased from his ill-gotten wealth.

A statement issued by India's Enforcement Directorate (ED) said: ""Sukesh Chandrasekhar had given various gifts worth Rs5.71 crore [approx Rs50 million] to Jacqueline Fernandez from the proceeds of crime generated by criminal activities including extortion." Apparently Jacqueline was aware about Suresh's nefarious activities.

Several reports claim that Jacqueline Fernandez was pampered with gifts ranging from luxury bags to plush Persian cats. In the statement by ED, Jacqueline became the owner of a horse worth millions. She was also made to feel special by tangibles including designer bags and clothes from luxury brands Gucci and Chanel. Following several rounds of questioning and investigation with the actress herself, ED seems to have come to the conclusion that the actress was always aware that Suresh, the man she was dealing with, was a criminal engaged in illegal activities.

The backlash ever since Jacqueline's name got linked with conman Suresh has been swift. According to reports, the actress' assets worth Rs70million has been seized by the (ED) last April. Her name has been linked with Rs2billion money laundering case involving alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekar.

While Jacqueline Fernandez hasn't ever spoken about this scandal, she has been dropping philosophical posts on her social media account. This morning as soon as her name re-surfaced, she shared a cryptic Insta story which read: "Dear me, I deserve all good things. I'm powerful, I accept myself, it'll all be OK ..."

Jacqueline Fernandez was born in Sri Lanka and won the 2006 Miss Sri Lanka Universe pageant. She made her breakthrough in Bollywood in 2009 with the film 'Aladin'. She followed it up with hits such as 'Kick' with Salman Khan. Khan and Jacqueline are thick friends and were spotted recently at the IIFA in Abu Dhabi.

Recently, she was seen in a song cameo in the Kannada film 'Vikrant Rona' with Kiccha Sudeepa.
