Texas winter storm: Hollywood stars Beyonce, Matthew McConaughey and more offer support amid crisis

A winter storm in Texas has left millions struggling to cope with not only the snow and ice, but water shortages and power blackouts. Amid the crisis, Hollywood celebrities have come forward to help out and share information on resources. Here are some of the stars who are offering their support and well wishes...

Beyonce, who was born and raised in Houston, Texas, is helping people through her BeyGOOD foundation. A post on her Instagram Story encouraged people to apply for assistance. The initiative, a collaboration with Adidas and charity organisation Bread of Life, will provide grants of up to $1,000 to those in need.

Another Texas native, Matthew McConaughey, wrote on Twitter: “I am sending prayers of resilience and the humanity of the helping hand out to all Texans that are struggling with the freeze.” He included options for aid. “I have reached out to help @mealsonwheels, @AAULTX, @BGCAustin For more information on resources, how you can help or to donate tap the links above,” he added.

Actress Kerry Washington posted a picture with information on Instagram and wrote: “Texas needs our help. There are organizations on the ground that need our assistance in helping Texans stay warm and safe. Donate, call, share, volunteer, pray. Whatever you can do to help!”

Actress Reese Witherspoon also tweeted options for help and asked people to offer their support: “Over 4 million homes are without power in Texas. These families need our attention. Sharing some resources of organizations helping the community. Please join me in supporting if you’re able: @feedtheppldfw @atxfreefridge @DFWmutualaid @mutualaidhou.”

Comedian and actor Patton Oswalt wrote a scathing tweet slamming the “greed” of some people. “I’ve performed all over Texas. I love that state. And I HATE that this is happening to its residents because of short-sighted greed. The pendulum has got to swing HARD the other way, for everyone’s sake,” he said.

Model and cook book author Chrissy Teigen used her platform to crowdsource reliable ways to help out. “Please list some good ways to help Texas here - for me and for all of us,” she tweeted.
