Sonam Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut say 'Happy Mother's Day'

May 10 is celebrated as Mother’s Day in India, and this year the stars here began celebrations a bit early. Heart-felt messages, jokes and even songs were especially composed for the occasion and posted on social media accounts. Here’s a look at what some of them had to say.

47-year-old actor Arjun Rampal, in an Instagram post, shared his thoughts for his mother and his lady love -- Gabriella Demetriades. "She is a new Mom and a very fine one too. Happy first Mother's Day, mamma, love you," wrote the 'Om Shanti Om' actor.

The 'Roy' actor shared a throwback picture with his mom and wrote: "She is the most beautiful soul. She is my Mom." He wrapped up the post by extending his Mother's Day wishes to "all the mothers out there". "Thank you for just being you. #happymothersday[?]," he concluded.

Actor Kangana Ranaut’s team posted a picture featuring the 33-year-old actor and her mother Asha Ranaut on Twitter . "Wishing a very Happy & Blessed #MothersDay in advance to a strong woman who raised strong women, Mrs Asha Ranaut. #KanganaRanaut spends quality time with her mum to mark the celebration of Mother's Day!" reads the tweet by team Ranaut.

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana is debuting a song titled 'Ma', dedicated to all mothers. "Though every single day should be called Mother's Day, given the sacrifices she makes and the unconditional love that she showers on her child, it is quite sweet that we can all celebrate our mothers on a special day specially dedicated to them," he said. "On this Mother's Day, I will be posting a really special song, titled Ma, which we are dedicating to all the mothers out there. The spirit of motherhood has always amazed me and I will be humbly singing in praise of this ever-caring, ever-nurturing force," he added.

Six-time world champion pugilist Mary Kom has thanked her mother for supporting her unconditionally throughout her career. The boxer shared her Mother's Day (May 10) wishes in advance on Saturday. "I know you have always accepted me the way I'm as your child and supported me without any conditions in all good and bad times. You patiently stood against your choices and wishes to fulfil mine. I thank you and love you mom," Kom told ANI. The 37-year-old extended her respect and wishes to all the mothers out there. "You are the best mother in the world. To all the wonderful mothers, stay healthy and strong because the world needs you. My respect and salute to all of you. Happy Mother's Day," she added.

Actor, author, and mother Twinkle Khanna posted a video on Twitter: "I am going to tell you what mother's really want for Mother's Day or what at least I want for Mother's Day. I want to be free of all responsibilities for an entire day." She went on to say: "Some of you watching this may think I am a terrible mom...But deep down I don't think I am a bad mom... here's wishing all you badass moms a happy mother's day."

Singer Sonu Nigam has paid a special tribute to motherhood through his song "Maa". "It has been rightly said, God cannot be everywhere, so he created mothers and this song resonates the same essence," Sonu said. "When I first heard the lyrics of the song, it gave me goosebumps and reminded me of the profound times spent with my mother. Beautifully written by Sameer ji and composed by my best friend Raju Singh, the song has some very emotional lines and had an instant connect with the essence of motherhood," he added.

Shilpa Shetty posted a heart warming message to her mum. She wrote: ""I am so grateful to God for blessing me with 'this' mother in this life, who has loved and supported me unconditionally and selflessly. She has been an incredible example of strength, dignity, ethics and love to both Shamita and me and moulded us into the individuals we are today. The moral and spiritual values that she gave us throughout our formative years make for such a beautiful gift - one that can never be repaid."

While Sonam Kapoor’s message may not be an out-and-out Mother’s Day message, it is a celebration of her parents and the love and support they bring to her life. What could be more apt for the occasion. Kapoor posted his monochrome image along with the caption: “Aspiration and inspiration for the future.. thank you parents for being the best kind of role models. We are because of you.”
