Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (UAE cinemas): An eagerly awaited Christmas weekend release, 'Aquaman 2' has been receiving mixed reviews at the box office. The comic book sequel, starring Jason Momoa as the King of Atlantis and directed by James Wan, will, however, have diehard fans of the DC universe queuing up to satiate their curiosity. Anything to look forward to? Well, Momoa remains a committed leading man.

Penduko (UAE cinemas): This superhero film from the Philippines is written and directed by Jason Paul Laxamana and has Matteo Guidicelli as the titular character along with Cristine Reyes. The story is about a 20-year-old US-bred guy who journeys to the Philippines after his father’s death, in search of his mother. There, he discovers a curse and evil forces destroying the town. Enough reason for a superhero to get into action.

Dunki (UAE cinemas): Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’, directed by Raj Kumar Hirani, looks at unauthorised cross-border migrant crossings with a humane touch and, thankfully, there’s no preaching and didacticism. While Khan over-act in several scenes, Taapsee Pannu holds her own. Also, watch out for Vicky Kaushal’s extended cameo.

Wonka (UAE cinemas): This fantastical film, a prequel to ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, is a ticket to tap into your inner child. With songs you can't help but sing along to and a story that unfolds effortlessly, Wonka beautifully portrays all the aspects of surrealism. According to The Associated Press, though Roald Dahl’s magic is missing, the movie has two big things going for it: the charisma of its winning star, Timothée Chalamet, and the dazzling designs of its director, Paul King, the don of ‘Paddington’.

Curry and Cyanide (Netflix): This detailed documentary explores the chilling story of Jolly Joseph and how she murdered six of her family members with cyanide. The documentary covers every aspect of the case and is sure to go down well with crime lovers. But, be warned. This is not for the faint-hearted.

BTS Monuments: Beyond the Star (Disney+): To all the BTS fans who are down in the dumps after the Bantan boys trooped into the military, cheer up — for BTS content still runneth over. 'Beyond The Star' is a documentary comprising all the band’s special moments through the past nine years and is just what the doctor ordered for those suffering from a severe bout of BTS deficiency.

Koffee With Karan (Disney +): It’s not often that you get to see a mother-son duo on talk show host Karan Johar’s famous couch. Watch as he chats up Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan and his mother, the ageless veteran actress Sharmila Tagore. Watch the episode if you want to know just what a brat Khan was — from flying through glass doors to disappearing on a date and more.

Oppenheimer (Prime): This is Christopher Nolan’s most successful film that’s even left the director surprised. After all, it’s an R-rated film that runs for three hours, with half of it playing in black and white AND has people talking most of the time. If you missed it on the big screen, you can still round off the year with this masterpiece, starring Cillian Murphy in the lead role.

Howl's Moving Castle (Netflix): If you fell in love with Hayao Miyazaki's work in 'The Boy and the Heron', then 'Howl's Moving Castle' is another must watch in his long list of films. Exploring magic and fantasy in a world beyond your imagination, the film is a wonderful blend of joy, love, sadness and hope. With stunning visuals and characters that you'll instantly fall in love with, this movie is a timeless piece of art.

The Family Plan (Apple TV): Mark Wahlberg plays an assassin-turned-family man whose past catches up with him in this action comedy. And when it does, he must take his wife (Michelle Monaghan), teen daughter, teen son, and 10-month-old baby into their minivan on an impromptu cross-country road trip. Watch the fun.
