However, the dark side of AI is being utilised for the wrong reasons, especially with the advent of deepfake technology. Hollywood star Tom Hanks shared details with his 9.6 million Instagram followers that he was victim of a scam. Hanks posted about a dental plan ad featuring his face, made with deepfake technology, emphasizing that the video was created and distributed without his consent. The actor expressed his concern and disassociation from the AI-generated content, sharing a screenshot of the computer-generated image used in the clip.

Bollywood actress Rashmika Mandanna recently became a victim of deepfake scam after a video featuring AI-generated content went viral on social media. The video shows someone with the actor’s likeness entering an elevator – this was proven to be a deepfake video and Delhi Police are investigating the incident.

Katrina Kaif, another Bollywood actress, also fell prey to deepfake technology, with a screengrab from a certain scene of her movie ‘Tiger 3’ went viral in a misleading context. The intent behind these videos appears to be tarnishing the reputations of these well-known actresses.

Anil Kapoor had to go to court to protect his rights recently. The Delhi High Court on September 20 restrained various entities from using Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor's name, image, and voice for commercial purposes without his consent, after some brands used the word 'Jhakaas' in the actor's classic style to promote products online.

Alia Bhatt is one of the latest targets of deepfake videos, as a clip surfaced on social media showing a woman resembling her making inappropriate gestures.

Kajol also became a victim of deepfake technology when manipulated footage, initially shared by a British social media influencer as part of a TikTok challenge, featured Kajol's face as part of a misleading narrative. Fact-checking platforms have clarified that the original video belongs to an English influencer named Rosie Breen, who participated in the Get Ready With Me trend on June 5, 2023.
