From Priyanka Chopra to Kareena Kapoor, Bollywood celebrates Hindu festival Karwa Chauth

Married women across India are fasting today as part of the Hindu festival of Karwa Chauth. It’s the day women observe a fast from dawn to dusk, praying for the long lives of their spouses. Of course with time, the celebrations have become more fantastic, with grand outfits and get-togethers marking the end of the fast. Bollywood on and off screen has celebrated the annual fest over the years. Today we look at actresses who may be undertaking a subdued line – owing to COVID-19 and its safety practices - but are marking it none-the-less and some who are posting throwback photos.

'Desi Girl,' Priyanka Chopra Jonas on Wednesday (local time) celebrated the festival of Karwa Chauth with her singer husband Nick Jonas in California. The 'Baywatch,' actor took to Instagram to share two pictures from her Karwa Chauth celebrations from her US home with the 'Sucker,' singer. "Happy Karwa Chauth to everyone celebrating. I love you Nick Jonas," she captioned the post. Nick also shared a post on his Instagram profile and wrote: "Happy Karwa Chauth everyone. Blessed to have my beautiful wife home."

Actor Anil Kapoor’s wife, Sunita, hosted several Bollywood wives at her home for annual Karwa Chauth rituals. Spotted in attendance were Sanjay Kapoor’s wife Maheep Kapoor who posted on her insta several stunning pictures and wrote: ''Happy karva chauth ❤️ #2020 #MissingTheMoon''.

Here's what Kajol shared from her Karwa Chauth celebrations with this ROFL caption: "Hunger games series. Swipe for the fun: Pls read appropriate captions given below...1) Waiting for the moon with love and patience. 2) Slowly losing it. 3) Serial killer is happening. 4) Agar khaana nahi mila toh...5) Hey bhagvan aasman me nahi to phone pe to chand dikhade!"

The Kapoor clan, which includes Kareena Kapoor Khan and Randhir Kapoor, met up for dinner on Karwa Chauth at Neetu Kapoor’s house. The pictures show Kareena along with her celebrity parents, her cousins Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Aadar Jain with his rumoured girlfriend Tara Sutaria and their other family members.

Actress Kiara Advani may not be fasting, but she definitely was helping her mum dress for the occasion. She posted a photograph on Insta of the two of them; Kiara was putting henna – as is customary - on mum’s hands.

Kajal Aggarwal and Gautam Kitchlu tied the knot in a glamorous wedding on October 30. Just in time for Karwa Chauth. They posted a photo of themselves on Instagram to mark the moment.

Tahira Kashyap took to Instagram to share a picture of herself in her Karwa Chauth getup. She is seen dressed in a red ensemble with green accents, posing happily for the camera. In her caption, she mentions how this year too, she and Ayushmann are going to be celebrating Karwa Chauth apart. And how FaceTiming on this day has become a ritual for them. "Opening up my heart to the moon! Within the same city and yet a long distance one this year too @ayushmannk FaceTiming this day has become an every year ritual (sic)," Tahira wrote.

Taking to Instagram, Divya Dutta posted a picture of her hand with simple mehendi design. Alongside the picture, she wrote, “That’s all I could do myself!! happy #karwachauth lovelies!!”

Raveena Tandon, currently living in Dalhousie posted a few photos from her Karva Chauth celebrations, virtually with husband Anil Thadani. "I fast for the happiness and health and long life, for my Mums (mom and mamma), my dad, my husband, my kids and their families. It's all your faith and your good vibrations that send out into the universe. This is the first time Anil and my kids not here with me to help me do the prayer and break my fast, missing all in Mumbai!" she captioned one of her posts.

Shilpa Shetty's husband Raj Kundra too posted few pictures on his Instagram story. ''Blessed to be able to see the Moon and a beautiful bright shining Star right next to me at the same time 😇🧿🤗😇 #karvachauth #love #patipatni #lifepartner #blessed #gratitude.''

But the real story – wink, wink – came from her him. who posted a meme of the actress. The second panel of the photo explains…she is hungry and is imagining he is ‘vada pav’. “Happy Karva Chauth,” Raj Kundra wrote with his post.

Kamya Punjabi shared this adorable photo on Instagram.

Meanwhile actor Bipasha Basu shared a glimpse of Karwa Chauth celebration with hubby Karan Singh Grover and it is all things love on Instagram, she wrote, “With my heart @iamksgofficial celebrating #karwachauth ❤️ I am truly blessed for my love. I love you @iamksgofficial ❤️Thank you for all your love ❤️ #monkeylove”
