Engineer's Day 2023: Kriti Sanon, Vicky Kaushal, Kartik Aaryan and other Bollywood stars chose acting over engineering

The birth anniversary of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, one of India's greatest engineers is celebrated every year as Engineer's Day in India. Popularly called 'Sir MV', he was awarded India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna in 1955 for his contribution to India's early infrastructure development, education and social welfare. After completing his undergraduate degree in Arts, M Visvesvaraya changed track and studied for a degree in civil engineering from the College of Engineering in Pune. Here’s a look at Bollywood stars who’ve followed his lead into the science.

Before he made his way to Bollywood, the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput dreamt of being an engineer. A brilliant student always, he ranked 7th in the All India Engineering Entrance Exams (AIEEE) in 2003. However, he dropped out in the third year while pursuing Mechanical Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering to follow his passion for acting.

Now an admired philanthropist, Sonu Sood was a struggling model before he met with success as an actor. But he’s not just a pretty face. He has an engineering in electronics degree from Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering, Nagpur.

Before charming audiences with his on-screen presence, Vicky Kaushal was a student at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology in Mumbai. However, soon after graduating the actor shifted attention to his love for being in front of the camera.

Gwalior boy Kartik Aaryan secured a degree before he could follow his dream of acting. He graduated in Engineering in Biotechnology from Mumbai, studying while working in films.

Stunning fans with her incredible performances, ‘Thapad’ Taapsee Pannu completed her graduation in Computer Science Engineering from Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology, New Delhi. She has also worked in a software company before venturing into films.

‘Dilwale’ actress Kriti Sanon holds a BTech degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Jaypee, Noida. A studious name among her peers, she made her debut in Bollywood alongside Tiger Shroff in ‘Heropanti’.

One of the finest Indian actors, R Madhavan has an excellent academic record. He went to IIT-Madras and is a proud graduate of Bachelors in Technology in Mechanical Engineering.
