Sharjah’s tourism ambitions are headed for the mountains. After carving up a name in the heritage and eco- tourism, the emirate is ready to use another aspect of its landscape to effect in drawing visitors with an adrenaline rush in their minds.

So, it is to Khorfakkan that Sharjah will be heading to for a step into all the possibilities that adventure tourism can bring. And it gets no bigger for future visitors when they are mountains around.

The new project from the Sharjah investment authority Shurooq will be built adjacent to the Soueifa mountain in the eastern area of Khorfakkan and overlooking the Luluyah Beach.

Given those heights, a zipline is part of the project’s future features, and there will be a ‘giant swing’, a dry-slide track, hiking and mountain biking tracks. So, anything that a visitor wants to get the muscles and sinews working over-time.

Literally, this is off the beaten track when it comes to Sharjah exploring its possibilities in the tourism space. Heritage is something that the emirate has focussed on, reconverting facets of its past to be used again as visitor hotspots. Then there are the niche desert resorts, framed by an architecture that again takes its cues from a distant past.
