Forbes' richest women in India: Nykaa's Falguni Nayar joins list as self-made billionaire

With a net worth of $18 billion, 71-year-old Savitri Jindal tops the list of India's richest women and is 7th overall in richest Indians as of October. Savitri Jindal is the Chairperson Emiretus, Jindal Steel & Power Limited. Born in the Rasiwasia family in Tinsukia, Assam, Savitri married O.P. Jindal in 1970s, who had founded the Jindal Group, a steel and power conglomerate. She was a Minister in Haryana Government and member of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) from Hisar constituency. She lost the seat in elections held in 2014 for the Haryana assembly. She became the chairperson after her husband, O.P. Jindal, who died in a helicopter crash in 2005. She is a member of the INC political party.

With a net worth of $7.6 billion, Vinod Rai Gupta is the second richest woman in India according to Forbes. She and her son took over management of Havells India after the death of the company's founder and her husband Qimat Rai Gupta. Son Anil Rai Gupta is the Chairman and Managing Director of the firm. Vinod Rai Gupta is 24th on the list of richest Indians and her net worth increased from $3.55 billion, Forbes reported.

Leena Gandhi Tewari, Chairperson, USV Pvt. Ltd is third on Forbes' list. The business woman is extremely media-shy and this year, added added $1.4 billion to her wealth, going from $3 billion to $4.4 billion

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw with $3.9 billion is fourth on the list and had a drop of just over 15 per cent since last year. She is the executive chairperson and founder of Biocon Limited and Biocon Biologics Limited.

Divya Gokulnath is the co-founder and director of Byju's, India's leading ed-tech company. The educator is married to Byju Raveendran, the CEO and co-founder of the platform. Her net worth currently stands at $4.05 billion.

Mallika Srinivasan is the Chairman and Managing Director of Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited and sixth of this list. Her net worth is $2.89 billion, which grew marginally since last year.

Based on Forbes' list, Nykaa founder Falguni Nayar would be ranked third based on her net worth which is $6.5 billion as of Wednesday as shares of the firm surged as much as 89%.
