REPLY TO A SPECIFIC MESSAGE: Using a button to quickly indicate you like a message. This is a regular feature on other social networking app. With WhatsApp, that wasn’t the case before. Now, you can “like”, “heart”, and react using one or some of the thousands of emoticons to specific messages. How? Go to message > Long-press the message > Reply (a menu appears to reply to a specific message using the quote).

SEARCH, RESCUE, DESTROY: It's a simple, but useful feature. Quickly find different file types within the WhatsApp — images, videos, chats, details — using specific search words. Benefit: It allows you to pick important files, save them in an external drive, discard the unimportant ones. iOS: Chats > Specific chat > Tap contact info at the top > Search button > Type in the search word. Android: Chats > Specific chat > Open Menu on top right > Search > Type in search word. It’s also possible to search a specific chat, instead of all chats.

MANAGE STORAGE: Large files (videos or photos), when not managed well , eventually weigh your phone down. You could simply delete all of them from one chat; alternatively, you can trash all the messages in a specific chat or group, leaving other file types intact (i.e. photos). iOS & Android: Settings > Storage and Data > Manage Storage > Select Contact > Manage > Select > Tick the boxes next to what you want deleted> Tap bin.

SEND A DISAPPEARING IMAGE OR VIDEO: This is another magical feature. When send a message, you the option for it to literally disappear once seen by the recipient. This is useful for passwords, bank details, or stuff that contain sensitive data. As soon as the recipient closes it, the message disappears. How to remember? If you are recipient, simply take a screenshot. iOS: Specific chat > Tap on the "+" next to the message input field > Choose 'Camera' to take a photo or 'Photo & Video Library' to select a photo > Choose the photo > Tap on the "1" next to the blue send arrow > Press the blue arrow to send. Android: Specific chat > Tap on the paperclip next to the message input field > Choose 'Camera' to take a photo or 'Gallery' to select a photo > Choose the photo > Tap on the "1" next to the blue send arrow > Press the blue arrow to send.

WHATSAPP REMAINS FREE: The messaging app has had a few hiccups in the past. Its popularity remains high. The new features and improvements allow easy ways to customise your experience so it looks and works better for you. For example, you customise your wallpaper for each chat, or move your WhatsApp chats from iPhone to Android devices. Go to Settings > Chats and tap on the Move chats to Android option.
