CEOs of Google, Microsoft congratulate Jeff Bezos, Andy Jassy on new roles

Bezos, 57, will be replaced in the summer by Andy Jassy, who runs Amazon's cloud-computing business. In a blog post to employees, Bezos said he planned to focus on new products and early initiatives being developed at Amazon. Mr Bezos, 57, founded Amazon in his garage in 1994 and went on to grow it into a colossus that dominates online retail, with operations in streaming music and television, groceries, cloud computing, robotics, artificial intelligence and more.

Among the leaders, Google's parent Alphabet's CEO Sundar Pichai was among the first to wish Bezos farewell as the chief officer of Amazon. The Indian-American top executive also sent his best wishes for two of the passion projects of the outgoing Amazon CEO - the Day 1 Fund and the Bezos Earth Fund. “Congrats @JeffBezos, best wishes for Day 1 and Earth fund. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, noting Mr Jassy's accomplishments, tweeted, "a well-deserved recognition of what you have accomplished". “Congratulations to @JeffBezos and @ajassy on your new roles. A well-deserved recognition of what you have accomplished.”.

Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, also took to Twitter to say Amazon "could not be in better hands." “Congrats @ajassy! Amazon could not be in better hands.”

WeWork Executive Chairman and COO of Softbank Marcelo Claure welcomed Bezos to the “Executive chairman club”. “Congrats @JeffBezos , welcome to the #ExecutiveChairman club !! This is when the real fun begins !! Congrats @ajassy on your new role!” tweeted Claure.

Padmasree Warrior, founder and CEO of Fable and a Spotify and Microsoft board member, called Jassy's promotion a "well deserved step-up”, adding “Congrats @ajassy !! Well deserved step-up to lead @amazon”

So who is Andy Jassy? Andy Jassy who joined Amazon in 1997 as a marketing manager and made its Cloud arm Amazon Web Services (AWS) a distinct leader, will take over as Amazon CEO in about six months and for him, more enterprises need to unlock digital transformation and begin their Cloud journey post-pandemic.

In 2003, Jassy founded Amazon Web Services (AWS) with a team of 57 people and in April 2016, he was promoted from senior vice president to the CEO of AWS.

Today, AWS has nearly a $50 billion annual run rate and is growing exponentially. Born on January 13, 1968, Jassy graduated from Harvard College, where he was advertising manager of The Harvard Crimson, before earning an MBA from Harvard Business School.

He is also one of the minority owners of the Seattle Kraken in the National Hockey League. A private guy like Bezos, in his Twitter bio, Jassy describes himself as "married" and the "father of two kids". He is also a self-proclaimed "big sports/music/film fan," and an "experienced buffalo wings eater". For him, India is one of the fastest growing markets.
