Let’s join hands for the people of Yemen

We must take a stand for the sake of humanity

Last updated:

The crisis in Yemen began with the 2011 uprising against the then President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who ruled for more than two decades. However, the uprisings came to a successful end in 2012 for as Saleh left office. Later, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi took over as president in 2012.

Now, 2015, and Yemen is back on square one as the Houthis are trying to establishing a new government, which resulted in Hadi retreating with his supporters, leaving Yemen in pieces.

The Arab League, led by the Saudis, began a campaign and mobilisation of various armed forces in the region with the aim to end the Houthi aggression.

The UAE has played a key role in the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis and driving them out of the southern port city of Aden — a key victory for the coalition.

The sons of UAE continue to show resilience and bravery in support of our Yemeni brothers against injustice and aggression. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), 549 people have been killed and 1,707 injured since March 19 this year. It’s estimated that around 16 million Yemenis are dependent on humanitarian aid.

There is a scarcity of food in the markets, no fuel at stations, care centres are almost entirely closed, and regional hospitals lack doctors and equipment. In addition, there is a huge lack of water, electricity and all this is affecting the most vulnerable — including children.

As time passes, families have become isolated and impoverished, and as such, their needs are increasing. Pregnant and nursing women, the elderly, and children are most at risk of malnutrition. With that in mind, it’s time to take our responsibility as citizens of the world and help contribute for the sake of humanity and to help the people of Yemen.
