Blinded by hate in Indian politics

The nation is so politically divided that everyone is quick to oppose any decision

Last updated:

The last two and a half years have witnessed an unprecedented phenomenon shaping up gradually, which was not witnessed before in the 70-year history of independent India. It is the sharp divide in the Indian population on the lines of support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Those who support him, continue to be swayed and enthralled by his new policies and adventurous moves, while those who oppose him continue to feel that he is only playing to the gallery and has no serious intentions of developing the nation.

The problem does not end there. In fact it begins there. The anti-Modi lobby is so frustrated that they have temporarily kept aside their logic of reasoning and criticise any and every move made by Modi.

This can be seen from the opposition to the Supreme Court’s order to play the national anthem at the beginning of every show in theatres. This order has been passed by the Supreme Court of India, which has nothing to do with Modi. It is an independent institution, which wields supreme power in a democracy. However, people are quick to say that it is Modi who is thrusting his idea of nationalism on the people. Any sane person would pity the ignorance of such people.

Furthermore, instead of rejoicing at the courageous and brave move to systematically kill the 70-year-old epidemic of corruption and black money, they only see the queues outside the banks and ATMs. This is perhaps the best example to demonstrate what happens when people hate someone excessively. They lose their sense of reasoning and are blinded to the surrounding reality. It is pity that they see only adversity in every opportunity.

Our ancient scriptures mention that when you hold a grudge against someone, you burn from inside. You do not cause any harm to that person. Let us pray that wisdom prevails on them sooner and they change their mindset to appreciate what is in the best interest of the country.
