Undermining creativity causes emotional trauma

Many creative people go through these ‘disorders’ because of how other people treat them and their talent, after years of being undermined (‘5 most common mental health disorders’, Gulf News, May 13). They are people and have emotionally induced states of mind caused by other people! It’s time to look at society and how we treat others, rather than labelling everything a disorder when it doesn’t fit the ‘normal’ spectrum, which is becoming a very slim category, too. Our societies have lost the art of human respect and social interaction. This is the only real disorder people suffer from.

Navigating the UAE

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) smart drive app is the best navigation smartphone app (‘Which navigation apps do residents prefer?’, Gulf News, May 13). It has updated routes throughout the emirates and works without internet.

All in the details

I use 2GIS — it’s the best app ever. It doesn’t need internet connection either and it even shows the villa numbers or building names. It shows you where to enter the building from and if you are looking for any restaurant or bank, it shows you their opening and closing hours as well.

Free and it works

I use Google Maps. I haven’t tested maps extensively. I stopped using Waze, since the maps kept becoming outdated. Other apps are paid and don’t even have live traffic features.

Restaurants need navigation

Unfortunately, most shops and restaurants offering a delivery service prove they are unable to use any kind of Global Positioning System (GPS). Every time I place an order, I provide a Google Maps dropped pin showing the location of my house and the Makani reference for my address. Despite providing all of this information, I always receive a phone call from an employee, asking me about my location. When I remind them that they already have two different GPS markers showing them the exact location of my house, they claim to have never heard of Makani, Google Maps, GPS or the internet.

Inexplicable goodness

I’m glad to be a part of this country (‘Coming to Dubai is a dream for us’, Gulf News, May 15). I left my home country with no hope, after I left the US to go back to Africa. Before I did that, I decided to give it one last try... just one more chance in the UAE. I have experienced inexplicable goodness in the UAE.

Great people

The UAE might be an desert region, but it is indeed a nice place, lush, with welcoming people. I love the UAE’s culture and the great architecture. It takes your breath away.

Mosquitoes a problem

I agree with the residents who are struggling with the growing mosquito population, especially after rains (‘Mosquito menace drives residents indoors in many Dubai communities’, Gulf News, May 15). I stay in Discovery Gardens in Dubai and we have suddenly been seeing a lot of mosquitoes.

Insensitive remarks

Tyson Fury’s comments are extremely hurtful (‘Tyson Fury sparks fresh row after saying rape and bestiality will one day be legal’, Gulf News, May 15). His statement about women is absolutely ridiculous and offensive. He has no right to judge women or make such lewd remarks about them. He has, once again, earned unnecessary attention for voicing his distasteful opinions. I fail to understand why the international media even publishes his comments.

Unacceptable intolerance

Should road rage result in the shooting of a young boy by an arrogant man, who happens to be the son of a powerful and influential politician in Gaya, India (‘Bihar teenager shooting: Absconding lawmaker seeks bail’, Gulf News, May 14)? This has happened recently. A 19-year-old — Aditya Sachdeva — was the son of a business man, and was shot dead, allegedly, by politician Manorama Devi’s son Rocky Yadav, for overtaking his vehicle in Bihar’s Gaya district, triggering protests in that area and all over the country.

Why do we allow road rage to result in a serious threat to human life? Rowdy people, who misuse their status and power, deserve severe punishment.

Isn’t it ironic that there is no action being taken in this gruesome and condemnable incident, by those who had said the country had become intolerant a few months ago?

No place for crime

The man who blackmailed the woman deserves to be sentenced (‘Man jailed for blackmailing woman on social media’, Gulf News, May 13). Such people should be deported, because they are threatening society. Thank you to Dubai Police for supporting people everywhere.

Preying on the gullible

US presidential candidate Donald Trump’s ‘hardline’ tactics were only to gain votes from racist and paranoid Americans (‘Muslim ban proposal only a suggestion, Trump says’, Gulf News, May 13). In reality, as a businessman with assets and investments in the Middle East, he would never actually implement policies that would put his personal brand or wealth at risk. Shame on the poor gullible people supporting him. He will never deliver on the hardline promises he made while campaigning!

Back pedaling

Trump is so scared of the global Muslim community. Since he understands it would be a tough challenge for him to deal with Muslims, it’s better for him to take the shortcut and recant such foolish words. He doesn’t deserve to be US president.

No need to be racist

Another suggestion is that Trump shouldn’t be elected at all. A president elected by the people indicates that what he thinks is right, but it also shows what he possibly thinks is better for the sake of his countrymen! We don’t have to be racist.

Don’t keep your hopes up

US President Barack Obama also said false things, such as his statement that he would resolve all issues during his first election period. He hasn’t solved all the issues regarding Palestine, Libya and Iraq. Saying things before an election is very easy, but it is just for applause from a few audiences and like-minded people. However, when you sit on that chair, it will order you to obey its commands, like Obama has done. Has he solved all the issues of the world during his two tenures? Any American president who comes to power can’t hold such high hopes.

Dangerous driving habits

Tailgating wouldn’t be such a problem if people had a clue about lane discipline (‘New Sharjah radar to catch tail-gaters’, Gulf News, May 12). Having travelled to Sharjah for work every day for 18 months, I have seen some very dangerous driving habits.
