Recently, various well known celebrities revealed that despite their huge fortunes, they don’t plan on letting their children inherit it completely as they want them to ‘break and sweat like other youngsters’. The late Philip Seymour Hoffman deliberately didn’t give his $35 million dollars to his children because he didn’t want them to be “trust-fund kids”. Should children inherit their parents’ wealth or should they work and earn for themselves?

The focus of this week’s debate is on inheritance and whether it is morally right of parents to deny it to their children?

These are the statements to be debated:

• Children who have access to a large inheritance won’t make smart choices or live a productive life.

• Parents who disinherit their children do so to promote productivity and a healthy lifestyle.

• It is every parents’ responsibility to make sure that their child is living the best life that they deserve.

Participants will be required to clearly state whether they are ‘for’ or ‘against’ the statement and provide their supporting arguments for the same.
