Drivers at the Al Qasba roundabout in Sharjah are at risk
Driving through Sharjah and Dubai roads on a working day is a nightmare for both veteran and novice drivers.
[The chaos] is caused mainly by a few miscreants who do not respect road regulations as well as their fellow human beings.
Random lane changing, dangerous overtaking, honking, and verbally abusing and shouting by such people no doubt causes other motorists great stress. However, other situations are due to no fault of the motorists.
The place is the roundabout near Al Qasba, in Sharjah. The time is peak rush hour during the morning and evening.
Commotion, confusion and pandemonium are what one experiences when passing through the area. The reason for this? The lines marking the lanes have faded and are missing in some places.
When experienced motorists find it difficult to drive through such places, what about the fate of new drivers?
This is not the only place where such chaos occurs. Other roundabouts in the city — and in certain cases, pedestrian crossings — have similar faded lines.
I hope to direct the attention of the authorities to the issue and hope appropriate action will be taken sooner rather than later.
