Dubai: Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, on Thursday met with the President of the Uzbekistan National Olympic Committee Umid Ahmadjonov and they discussed a number of Olympic and sports issues.

Shaikh Ahmad said that promoting cooperation ties with all representatives of the Olympic Movement is one of the priorities of the National Olympic Committee in light of the positive and exemplary atmosphere established by the UAE in all areas of sports work.

“The UAE has placed sports development among the top objectives of its strategic plans. Since its inception, it has worked to create a supportive environment for sports and athletes through the establishment of high-quality facilities provided with the best equipment. It has also offered athletes various incentives to excel in all competitions regionally and internationally”, Shaikh Ahmad added.

Shaikh Ahmad and Ahmadjonov discussed cooperation and ways to boost bilateral relations especially through reciprocating visits and sharing expertise to support the sports development on both sides and introduce new ideas and visions with the aim of advancing the sports sector and promoting competitiveness within various sports, especially Olympic.

Both sides reviewed the most prominent events that will be held in the coming period including The Asian Cup competition hosted by the UAE in 2019, the 18th Asian Games, hosted by Indonesia in August, which will feature 10,000 athletes from 45 countries as well as the third Youth Olympic Games in October in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires.

Shaikh Ahmad also discussed with the Uzbek counterpart the possibility of benefiting from the experiences in the sports sector of both countries to achieve the desired advantage for all.

The meeting was attended by Humaid Al Qatami, vice-president of the UAE National Olympic Committee, Saeed Hareb, secretary-general of Dubai Sports Council, and Abdul Mohsin Fahad Al Dosari, assistant secretary-general of Sports Affairs at the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, as well as other senior officials.
