    Do I need COVID-19 test to enter Abu Dhabi if I have taken the vaccine?

    If you have taken the COVID-19 vaccine as part of a clinical trial or during the national vaccination drive, would you still need to take a COVID-19 test to enter the emirate of Abu Dhabi?

    He asked: “I regularly travel to Abu Dhabi for work. If I have taken the vaccine, do I need to take a COVID-19 test for Al Ain or Abu Dhabi? Or is there a special exemption for those who have been vaccinated?”

    People within the UAE travelling to Abu Dhabi are required to have a COVID-19 negative test to be able to enter the emirate, however there are some categories that have been exempted.

    The entry guidelines, issued by the Abu Dhabi Media Office, allow those entering the emirate to show either of these two COVID-19 test results:

    1.	A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, also known as the swab test 2.	A Diffractive Phase Interferometry (DPI) test, also known as a laser test.

    Either of these two tests need to be done by a person to be able to enter the emirate, no more than 48 hours before the time of entry.

    On January 17, Abu Dhabi Media Office issued updated protocols for those who have received the COVID-19 vaccine, which included the steps a person needed to take to be exempt from taking a test before entering the emirate.

    Anyone with a ‘star’ or ‘E’ status on their Alhosn app is exempt from the taking a test with a validity of 48 hours before entering the emirate.

    For volunteers in clinical trials, the active icons on the Alhosn app - represented by a gold star on the app - appears after a PCR test is taken once all doses required by the trial are completed.

    For those vaccinated within the national vaccination programme, the active icon - represented by an ‘E’ on the app - appears once a PCR test is taken after 28 days from the second dose.

    Having this icon on the Alhosn app would exempt you from taking a PCR or DPI test while entering the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

    According to the announcement a periodic test is needed for the special status to appear on Alhosn app and is valid for seven days.
