Dubai: Acquiring pornographic material involving juveniles will land you in jail in the UAE, and it can also leave you with a fine of up to Dh500,000, according to the UAE’s cybercrime laws.

In an awareness message posted by the UAE Public Prosecution on its social media channels on January 4, the authority posted the penalty for dissemination of pornographic materials or materials against public morals based on Article 34 of the Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 on Combatting Rumours and Cybercrimes.

The post stated: “According to Article 34 of the Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 on Combatting Rumours and Cybercrimes, the perpetrator shall be sentenced to detention and a fine ranging between Dh250,000 and Dh500,000. If the pornographic content involves a child or is designed for the solicitation of children, the perpetrator shall be sentenced to detention for a minimum term of one year and/or a fine not exceeding Dh500,000.”
