Sajeev's dream came true when he picked up his H2. He wouldn't change it for the world. Well, maybe for a Continental GT.
It's nice to see your wife is as passionate about cars as you are…
We love cars, and in the past we have owned a Jaguar S-Type, BMW 320i and a Mercedes SLK 200. Currently, we have a Hummer H2 and a Jeep Cherokee Sport and are very possessive about both. We certainly don't allow valets anywhere near them.
That H2 is a beast. Tell us more about it…
It has always been my dream to own a Hummer and I am happy to have achieved it.It has a 6.2-litre V8 with a four-speed automatic transmission. I'm lucky fuel is cheap in the UAE, because it only gets me 6mpg on the highway.
It's very powerful — 400bhp at 5,700rpm and 563Nm of torque at 4,300rpm to be precise. The sound insulation is superb and despite the massive engine you can barely hear a thing inside.
It has a very spacious interior with ample legroom and is very comfortable. It is packed to the brim with kit and safety features include traction control and eight airbags. It's a tough and durable vehicle and it gives you a real sense of security behind the wheel.
I had a DVD player and a reversing camera installed, however I am not keen on customising the exterior.
Is it expensive to maintain?
The car is in great condition and since it is still under warranty, I have not had to spend much money on it — except for fuel. I service it at the authorised service centre every 10,000km. Best of all, it's easy to drive so I use it daily.
What do your friends think of it?
They always ask why I bought it over a ‘normal' SUV, but the answer is simple — it's different. My wife is petite, but she is very confident behind the wheel of the H2, though her friends always wonder how she manages to climb in! My sister tries to steal the Hummer's thunder with her Porsche Cayman S, but she knows she doesn't stand a chance.
It must rule the roads…
Absolutely. One of the biggest advantages is that I always get priority. The moment I indicate to change lanes, it seems like all the traffic stops for the Hummer. No one messes around with it.
I am not an expert in desert driving techniques but I have taken it to the dunes in Hatta and it handles really well. It is absolutely superb in the rough stuff. I'm looking forward to more off-roading in the coming months.
Do you have a dream car?
If I hit the big time, I would love to owna Bentley Continental GT.
