Steve Roger’s journey to becoming the beloved pet he is today was far from easy. Rescued from an overcrowded shelter where he suffered from kennel cough and neglect, Steve’s early days were filled with uncertainty and pain.

When his owner, Reema — a UAE resident of 20 years — first took him in, the kennel owner paid only for Steve’s initial veterinary visit and then shockingly refused to cover further treatment costs.

Instead, the kennel owner offered a replacement dog, coldly suggesting Steve be left to fend for himself on the streets. “This is the cruel reality behind illegal breeding practices,” says Reema. “But I couldn’t give up on him.”

Despite the mounting vet bills, Reema chose to fight for Steve’s health. Today, he’s a thriving, spirited dog with a personality larger than life.

From fragile rescue to protector and playmate Steve Roger is now known for his dramatic flair and fierce protectiveness. “He greets me with enthusiastic paw licks every day,” Reema shares. “If the fire alarm goes off, he acts like a guide dog — pushing us out of the room to safety.”

He’s gentle with the other animals at home, including cats and doves, and looks out for his tiny sister, Coco Channel, like a devoted elder brother. “Even when we leave them in kennels during holidays, I know Steve will watch over her,” says Reema.

A regular at Paris Cafe Every Saturday, Steve Roger visits Paris Cafe, a local hotspot where the staff have known him since puppyhood. The cooks and owner prepare his favorite treat — banana fries — with affection. On quieter mornings, Steve even joins Reema at the table, enjoying his meal like a true café regular.

More than a pet — A healing presence Steve Roger’s presence extends beyond companionship. Reema describes him as having healing powers, sensing her moods and offering comfort when she’s down. Though unofficial, he acts like a therapy dog.
