Al Tayer Motors receives award for Maserati sales

Dubai: Maserati has honoured Al Tayer Motors for achieving the Best Sales Growth in 2005.

The event was held at the Maserati showroom of Al Tayer Motors on Shaikh Zayed Road. Simone Niccolai, Business Development and Sales Manager for Maserati Importers, presented the award to Saeed Al Tayer, Managing Director of Al Tayer Motors.

Niccolai also highlighted the enthusiastic support given by Al Tayer Motors in establishing the brand in the region.

Al Majid launches new Kia showroom

Dubai: Al Majid Motors Co, a member of Juma Al Majid Group, the sole distributor for Kia vehicles in the UAE, recently launched its new Kia showroom on Al Wahda Street in Sharjah.

This new facility was established as part of a strategic expansion plan to expand Kia's market coverage and to meet end users demand as well as to cater to the growing clientele in Sharjah.

The showroom will offer the entire range of Kia vehicles, and is Kia's eighth showroom in the UAE. The more than 8,600-square-foot facility can accommodate a maximum of 24 cars on display and has a separate area for fleet sales and new car delivery.

GM full-size SUVs earn high praise

Dubai: General Motors' all new 2007 full-size SUVs have received high praise for their design, ride and handling and construction quality by the Middle East media, following a launch in Abu Dhabi.

Dozens of leading journalists gathered at the Emirates Palace Hotel for the launch of GM's Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Yukon XL full-size SUVs.

There they had a chance to study the vehicles before putting them through their paces on a demanding on- and off-road driving course in the desert outside Abu Dhabi.

Ford in aggressive sales campaign

Detroit: Ford Motor Co said it would offer zero-percent financing on almost all of its vehicles and give buyers $1,000 toward gasoline purchases as part of its most aggressive sales incentive programme of the year.

Ford said that as part of its "Drive on Us" discount programme, customers would be given either a prepaid debit card for $1,000 of gas purchases or an equivalent discount on the vehicle purchase price.

Ford's offer to subsidise gas purchases for car buyers upped the ante for larger rival General Motors Corp, which offered a similar but more limited programme recently in Florida and California.

Toyota recalls Prius hybrids in the US

Washington: Toyota Motor Corp, Japan's biggest automaker, is recalling 170,856 Prius hybrid gasoline-electric sedans in the US as part of a worldwide recall, the company announced.

The recall covers 2004 through 2006 models with power-steering parts that may crack and cause drivers to lose control of the vehicle, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warned on its website.

Toyota plans to recall almost one million vehicles worldwide, including the Prius, because of the steering defect.

Nissan halts sales of some vehicles

Los Angeles: Nissan Motor Co, Japan's second- largest automaker, halted North American sales of some 2006 Altima sedans and Sentra small cars while the company investigates complaints of engines consuming too much oil.

The suspension covers about 100,000 four-cylinder Altimas and Sentra SE-R compacts in the US, Canada and Mexico. Nissan has had 215 reports, mostly from rental-car fleets, of excessive oil use and 17 reports of engine fires, the company said.

Tata Motors' May sales rise 45%

Mumbai: Tata Motors Ltd, India's biggest maker of trucks and buses, posted a 45 per cent gain in sales in May after demand increased for its one-ton Ace mini truck and Indica hatchback car.

Tata Motors sold 44,357 trucks, buses, sport-utility vehicles and cars in India and overseas last month compared with 30,593 a year earlier, the Mumbai-based company said.
