Megane: Snug and refined

It doesn't have a prancing horse on its hood, but Renault's Megane Coupé-Cabriolet could still get you a lot of admiring glances. Particularly at a red light. In the 30 seconds that it will take for the lights to turn green, the top of the car will scissor neatly and, in a magic act, stow in the boot, allowing you to enjoy the sun and impress people at the same time.

No latches need to be undone to expedite this process. A simple push of a button on the centre console takes care of everything.

But this open and shut case in favour of the Megane isn't the only reason why you should be tempted to buy the pulse-quickening convertible.

One factor that could influence your decision is the price. At just Dh88,000 it's arguably one of the most affordable coupe cabriolet in the market.

The Megane Coupé Cabriolet comes with a refined 2.0 litre 16-valve engine that provides an effortless drive; its anti-roll bar keep things flat through corners; and the firm springs provide excellent control on highways.

It's no less impressive from the inside with seats, doors and steering wheel all swathed in fine grain leather.

Other interesting features include a hands-free card for access and ignition, integrated fuel filler cap and aviation-style hand brake.

Overall verdict: The Megane Coupé Cabriolet is a fantastic car, but don't expect blistering pace and sports car handling from it.

The Lowdown

Engine: 2.0 litre, 16v 136hp

Thumbs up: Automatic convertible folding glass roof.

Hands-free card for access and ignition

Thumbs down: Crammed rear space
