Bhramari Pranayam is a very effective practice that instantly calms the mind. It is one of the best breathing exercises to release anger, agitation, frustration or anxiety from the mind.

Note: Though these postures are easy to do and can be practised at home as with all the other exercises, it’s advisable to consult a doctor before starting them.

Procedure:

  • Sit in any comfortable position keeping your back straight and your shoulders relaxed.
  • Use your thumb to plug your ears and cut-off the sound from outside.
  • Now take a deep breath in and push the chest out.
  • As you exhale produce a humming sound like a bee and prolong it as long as your breath lasts.
  • Repeat this for 10-15 rounds and then be seated quietly in the same position for a few seconds for the vibrations to be absorbed into the mind.
  • Benefits:

  • Instantly relieves tension, anger and anxiety in the mind. It is a very effective breathing technique for people suffering from hypertension as it calms the agitated mind down.
  • Gives relief if you’re feeling hot or have a slight headache.
  • Helps mitigate migraines.
  • Improves concentration and memory.
  • Builds confidence.
  • Helps in reducing blood pressure.
  • Caution: This posture is to be practised on an empty stomach.
