The ancient yogis believed in a powerful philosophy: A problem you are aware of will begin to disappear and a problem you are unaware of will grow with time.

When we are unaware of our mental condition and force a smile on our faces despite being stressed, it starts affecting the body.

Cervical problems have their root in the mind and hence the best way to tackle them is to be aware of emotional stress.

Electrical impulses

Try to imagine the number of thoughts that pass through your mind each day. These are electrical impulses running from cell to cell, affecting every part of the body in some way or the other.

The body is a complex web of electrical currents, with energies shifting from one part of the body to another.

A negative thought carries a current different from a positive one and harms the body as it passes through the brain.

One such effect is the tightening of muscles. The best way to cure this is through exercise. Today, we look at some simple but effective poses.

Exercise 1

  • Sit comfortably on the floor or on a chair.
  • Slowly move head as far back as is comfortable.
  • Slowly bring head up and move it forward so chin touches chest.
  • Repeat 10 times.

Exercise 2

  • Sit in padmasana. If you are unable to sit this way, you can sit with legs crossed or on chair.
  • Interlock fingers at chest level, palms facing towards yourself and elbows at same level.
  • Inhale deeply as you turn palms out and slowly stretch arms, shoulders and chest upwards.
  • Hold stretch for 10-15 counts.
  • Breathe normally.

Exercise 3

  • Sit comfortably with back straight.
  • Take arms behind back, hold one wrist with other hand and pull down as you lift chest and drop head back.
  • Hold for 10-20 seconds.
  • Slowly come back to start position.

Exercise 4

  • Sit back on heels.
  • Place palms on knees, keep back straight and close eyes.
  • Relax and breathe normally.
