Day 1

As I sit here at my laptop writing this with the view of The Empire State Building in sight, I feel almost as glamorous as Sarah Jessica Parker. Almost that is because of the 14-hour journey it took me to get to this beautiful city, and the fact that my wardrobe is filled with Mango rather than Manolo!

But despite that, even after only a few hours of being in New York I’m already hooked on the buzz this amazing city has – and the main event hasn’t even begun yet!

My day started with two, rather luxurious flights with British Airways – first to London Heathrow and then on to New York. Despite dreading the long journey I was actually pleasantly surprised at how quickly it went, and I managed to keep myself busy by carefully choosing fashion themed films from the huge selection of movies on the In Flight entertainment system. With the eight-hour time difference between Dubai and New York I somehow ended up having three breakfasts throughout the two journeys. Okay, it may not be good for the pre-fashion week detox but they were totally delicious!

Anyway I’m finally here and settled into my first destination of the trip, quirky boutique property – Archer Hotel. The two-year-old hotel has prime location bang in the centre of Manhattan just between Times Square and The Empire State Building. As with many New York properties the rooms are fairly small but I have everything I need and there’s even a quirky selection of snacks in the mini bar. I’ve been told to check out the terrace lounge but I think that will have to wait until tomorrow when I’m more awake to appreciate the views across the NYC skyline.

I spent the rest of my afternoon getting my bearings and also checking buying some last minute essentials for the week. I already know that this metallic pleated midi skirt from Zara ($69.99/Dh260) is going to my wardrobe staple for the foreseeable future!

Time for an early night before day one of New York Fashion Week tomorrow.
