tabloid! celebrated its annual Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships ladies’s day on Tuesday
Bags, bling and a bit of comfort were the key to winning this year’s best-dressed competition at the annual Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship Ladies’ Day.
World number 21 Elina Svitolina was joined by Sinead Al Sibai, vice-president of marketing for Dubai Duty Free, to choose a tennis fan who celebrated the spirit of the tennis — comfy and casual but with classic style.
There was a huge turnout for the annual event that was moved to a Tuesday to coincide with ladies’ days across Dubai.
“We’re so pleased with the number of women here,” Al Sibai said. “The whole aim of Ladies’ Day is to get more women enjoying the tennis, looking spectacular and feeling beautiful”.
The judges picked Andrea Anstiss, 54, as their winner.
“We came to a unanimous decision,” Al Sibai said. “Andrea looks stylish, trendy and modern.”
“But she looks comfortable enough to spend a whole day at the tennis,” Svitolina added.
The pair were really taken with Anstiss’ boots.
“Her boots are really trendy this season,” Svitolina said. “They’re sleek and perfect for wearing every day.”
“We both absolutely love them,” Al Sibai said. “As it’s winter now, it’s about the only time you can get away with wearing boots in the UAE.”
The judges themselves echoed the competition’s glamour, with Al Sibai dressed in a sleek white blazer and blouse with black cropped trousers and teal courts.
“I’m obsessed with beautiful shoes and that’s what I’m looking for in our contestants.”
Svitolina also looked relaxed before the annual Players’ Party in a grey hoodie, salmon-pink t-shirt, black leggings and blue trainers.
The competition had an international flavour this year, with women from Germany, the UK, Serbia and India posing in everything from Marks and Spencer and Zara to Ralph Lauren and Furla.
Svitolina was taken with runner-up Lana Sabljarevic’s designer ensemble. Sabljarevic was 2013’s winner and brought along her daughter Sofia to contest her title this time.
“I love the pop of blue against her white jacket. She looks so stylish,” Svitolina said.
The ladies also had a special mention for Hazel Sullivan. At 80 years old, she wowed the judges with her classic fashion — vintage amethyst earrings and a pearl necklace paired with a beautiful dress.
“She looks so wonderfully British,” Al Sibai said. “I hope I look like that when I’m 80.”
