Truck drivers throwing caution to the wind in Dubai

Drivers who overload their vehicles put the safety of other road users in peril

I noticed this pick-up truck on Baghdad Street in the Al Qusais area of Dubai. It was overloaded with sacks and secured with only a tarpaulin, with just two ropes holding them together. In the event that the driver were to apply sudden brakes, there would have been a good chance that the cargo would jolt backwards and fall off the truck. This would in turn pose grave danger to those motorists who would be following the truck. It was a thoughtless act on the part of the driver to overload the truck and drive on the main roads. I urge the authorities concerned to take stringent action against such errant drivers and truck owners who do not follow simple safety measures.
