Student of Delhi Private School organise a campaign to promote eco-friendly habits.
Social responsibility is a key contributor to the progress of any country and the student community cannot afford to remain unmindful of their societal obligations. Any education that does not hammer home this aspect of community, cannot be called education at all.
Delhi Private School (DPS) Sharjah has embraced this motto as part of its mission in order to stimulate and develop unambiguous consciousness among its pupils about the ultimate way they have to recompense the society for the support it has been offering them in innumerable ways.
As part of our efforts to sensitise pupils to their social responsibilities, the DPS Sharjah’s Counselling Cell has taken up an initiative to organise campaigns, events, drives and shows that would equip them to be at the vortex of social change and public good.
‘Best from Waste’, ‘Environment Awareness’, ‘Community Service’, are some of the domains the Cell has chosen to initiate. An awareness campaign about the immediate need to protect the Earth from the ever-growing plastic menace was one such activity the Cell took up in commemoration of Environment Day.
Recycling or reusing can tackle this issue to some extent. The clue to a successful solution lies in drastically reducing the use and production of plastic as early as possible. And this calls for urgent plans to replace plastic products with biodegradable, eco-friendly materials.
Some of the students made cloth bags from worn jeans or tshirts, biodegradable caps decorated with an environment theme and paper bags for the campaign.
Reusing the existing plastic trash bags in and around the campus in useful forms and manufacturing paper bags to replace the plastic kits formed the prime activity included in this year’s Environment Day measures.
Students made a large number of them and proved that they can be reliable partners of the society in eliminating plastic without a trace. The campaign has led to a deeper perception of the gravity of the problem among them and they are sure to choose a paper bag in preference to a plastic bag in their daily lives, too.
