Reader is concerned about pedestrians trying to run across a busy road

Dubai
I’m writing to bring a very important issue to the notice of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). A road that runs between The Gardens community and a popular mall desperately needs a pedestrian crossing.
As you approach the main entrance to The Gardens community, a slip road branches off, which leads to an automated parking building. This road does not have a pedestrian crossing, but on a daily basis, a lot of people are seen crossing it.
This is a reason for concern and could result in a mishap one day. A school is also located across the road and a lot of times, especially when the school gets off in the afternoon, children and their parents are seen trying to cross this road. It is imperative that it gets a pedestrian crossing, to ensure people’s safety.
Many times, I have seen people waiting to cross, while cars come speeding by. Once I even noticed a mother and her young children attempting to cross and then hastily retracing their steps as a car came zooming in.
Paulami Chakravorty, a homemaker residing in the area, has often witnessed a similar scene.
She said: “After school ends, students cross this road in big numbers. I’ve crossed the road many times with my son, too. There needs to be a pedestrian crossing here. It is a top priority that needs to be addressed.”
The lack of a pedestrian crossing here could have dire consequences one day. I request the RTA to look into this matter and implement a suitable solution as soon as possible.

Editor’s note: The reader’s concerns were raised with the management of RTA. However, despite repeated reminders, they did not respond.
