Dubai: Catch Charice Pempengco, the newly crowned pop princess, and Billy Crawford, international pop and R&B sensation, perform live in Dubai tonight.
The concert “Rhythm N Voices 2010” will be held at the Dubai Tennis Stadium, The Aviation Club.
At the press conference at the Country Club, Dubai, yesterday, the Filipino pop pair said that they were excited to perform in Dubai for the first time.
Pempengco said: “Yes, finally, I am here to perform in Dubai.”
She was slated to have a concert last year, but it was cancelled at the last minute. Filipino fans were disappointed then and eagerly waited for Pempengco’s return. Tonight, they have a chance to catch her along with Crawford live in Dubai.
Although Pempengco did not disclose her repertoire for tonight’s show, it is expected that she will be belting out high notes such as “And I am telling you” by Jennifer Hudson, “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion and many more.
Crawford surely will be rendering songs from his latest album titled “Groove”, which should get your groove on.
So expect a night of great music and dance from these two young pop artists!
Orbit Events and Marketing organises Rhythm N Voices (RnV) annually, which features different Filipino and international artists and celebrities.
Fans eager to watch show
Many Filipino fans are eager to watch Charice and Billy perform live in Dubai. Rochelle Divinagracia, a 33-year-old business analyst, is excited to see them.
“Billy and Charice are both acclaimed pop superstars who made it to mainstream music. They won the hearts of millions of adoring fans not only locally, but also internationally. They had also pushed the bar of Filipino artistry to higher levels particularly in the realm of pop music where the level of competition is very steep,” she said.
Melissa Villanueva, a Dubai-based administrator, said, “I am not an avid fan, but [am] interested in watching Charice live, as she has already been crowned by Oprah as the “One To Watch”. She’s got a great talent and excellent voice. Billy is a total performer – a singer, dancer, actor, comedian and host and not to mention very good looking – all in one package.”
However, Alexis Wenceslao, a Dubai-based designer, digresses and thought there’s nothing special about Charice.
“She’s just a product of media hype. She’s just lucky for being noticed in Ellen [Degeneres]’s show and signing up a deal with David Foster. But she is no Lea Salonga or Regine Velasquez in the making. Pinoy kids who can belt and scream like Charice are just ordinary in the Philippines nowadays.”
“Billy is another Gary Valenciano wannabe – just like any other kid who grew up in Manila during the ‘80s and ‘90s. Yes, he was once popular in Europe, but who remembers any of his songs? His dancing is excellent but his singing: mediocre. Just an average performer – quite forgettable.”
29-year-old project manager, Dan Soriano, is a big fan of each and every Filipino who has made his or her way to the top of the world.
He said: “It is really inspiring that individuals such as Charice and Billy have made themselves known, not just in their homeland but around the world. The way they perform, and how they have lived have touched millions of Filipinos and non-Filipinos, and gave them hope to reach for their dreams.”
