Willie G. Davidson, senior vice president and chief styling officer at Harley-Davidson, and grandson of one of Harley's original founders, has been chosen to receive this year's Eyes On Design Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology.
Regarded as the most prestigious award in automotive design, each year's Eyes On Design Lifetime Achievement Award winner is chosen by the industry's top designers and award winners from previous years.
Designers who have been honoured in the past include Sergio Pininfarina, Harley Earl, Nuccio Bertone, Raymond Loewy, Bruno Sacco, Giorgetto Giugiaro, Tom Gale, Chuck Pelly, Chuck Jordan, Jack Telnack and Marcello Gandini.
Davidson will accept the award during the Eyes On Design 2009 weekend in Detroit on June 19.
Two of BMW Motorrad's latest K Series motorcycles are the recipients of the famous Red Dot design awards. Launched in 1955, the Red Dot award has become one of the most important design awards.
The K 1300 S sports bike and the K 1200 R naked roadster have won the internationally acclaimed label that is awarded to products that have set themselves apart from the competition by their particularly successful design solutions.
A special ceremony will be held on 29 June in Essen, Germany.
