The rumoured romance between Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande that has left social media shook all week continues to shake things up.

Davidson, a comedian best known for his tenure on Saturday Night Live, posted an Instagram story refuting online trolls who suggested that his borderline personality disorder made him unfit for relationships.

“Normally I wouldn’t comment on something like this,” Davidson wrote, “but I’ve been hearing a lot of ‘people with BPD can’t be in relationships’ talk.

“I just wanna let you know that’s not true. Just because someone has a mental illness does not mean they can’t be happy and in a relationship,” Davidson continued. “It also doesn’t mean that person makes a relationship toxic.”

Though the story has since disappeared, as is the nature of the medium, some fans screen-capped Davidson’s words for posterity.

The comedian went on to say that he thought it was messed up that people stigmatise those with mental illness and suggest they are unable to lead healthy, happy lives.

Davidson never mentioned Grande by name in the post, but E! reported earlier this week that the pair were casually dating.

“For all those struggling, I want you to know that I love you and I understand you and it is going to be okay,” Davidson wrote in his post. “That’s all. Love to everyone else.”
