Two-time Oscar winning Pakistani documentary maker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy recently received another honour when she was inducted into the Board of Trustees of Smith College, her own alma mater. The college is said to be one of the seven, high-ranking, private liberal arts colleges for women in the US.

Earlier this year, the college also awarded Obaid-Chinoy with an honorary degree in Fine Arts, for her brave efforts in advancing human rights through documentary journalism. It was in recognition of her brilliant career that spans over a decade and half and includes such features as A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness, Saving Face, and Pakistan’s Taliban Generation.

In 2012, she was chosen by Time magazine as one of the world’s 100 most influential people. The same year, the government of Pakistan awarded her with one of the country’s highest civil honours, Hilal-e-Imtiaz.
