The latest Tashkeel Residency Programme with Loro Piana introduces Italian artist Paola Anziché who is creating a body of work inspired by the UAE’s traditions of weaving and dyeing

Since first launching back in 2008 the Tashkeel Residency Programme has facilitated residencies for nearly 80 artists and designers from more than 30 countries. Dedicated to supporting and nurturing emerging and established talent with international creative collaborations and interactions, Tashkeel has just announced its latest residency through a partnership with Italian luxury textile brand Loro Piana and participating Italian artist Paola Anziché.

Considered the largest cashmere producer in the world and a leading luxury fibre company, Loro Piana is teaming up with Tashkeel for the second time for a programme that runs until January 2023. The first collaboration between the two began in 2018 when internationally acclaimed artist and former Tashkeel Artist-in-Residence eL Seed created a one-of-a-kind fabric with his signature calligraphic motifs.

The second part of the partnership with Loro Piana at Tashkeel introduces Turin-based textile artist Paola Anziché, the latest Tashkeel Artist-in-Residence, with works inspired by the local culture and landscapes of the UAE.

“Since our launch in 2008, Tashkeel has been committed to nurturing dialogue and discourse between countries and cultures through art and design,” said Sheikha Lateefa bint Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Founder and Director of Tashkeel. “We are therefore delighted that we have been able to realise this inaugural partnership with Loro Piana. Tashkeel has welcomed Paola Anziché into its creative community. Our 78th artist-in-residence is applying her visual arts practice to interpret the UAE’s natural environment and rich archaeology, and we look forward to presenting a highly anticipated new body of work in December.”

Anziché is established in Italy as a textile expert and artist committed to sustainability through the use of Loro Piana raw fibres and recycled responsibly sourced factory off-cuts, such as wool, cashmere, silk and lotus flower. During her residency, Anziché will delve into the art and craft tradition of the UAE and the region’s weaving and dyeing heritage, culminating in an exhibition of her much anticipated body of work from December 6 to January 10, 2023, at Tashkeel in Dubai.

“Loro Piana is proud to partner with Tashkeel once again, to bring their 78th artist-in-residence, Paola Anziché to Dubai,” said Nicole Louise Ward, General Manager of Loro Piana Middle East. “An overseas residency offers artists the opportunity to find new means of engaging their craft, where the dialogue between their artistic style and vision, and the customs, culture, and heritage of a new environment, provides for an enriching experience and platform for creativity. We look forward to another exciting journey between Loro Piana and Tashkeel, and to see what Paola will create during her experience in the UAE.”
