Creative possibilities allowed by the aid of emergent technologies
Twelve Saudi and international artists feature in the new exhibition entitled “Tales of Nostalgia” running until January 22 at the Misk Art Institute in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where the innovative aid of emergent technologies has allowed the artists to “reflect upon notions of time, memory, and nostalgia, exploring new possibilities and alternate narratives”.
The exhibition, curated by independent contemporary curator Marnie Benney and Misk Art Institute assistant curator Alia Ahmad Alsaud, incorporates additional public interaction opportunities with talks, workshops, and other programming schedules available to visitors.
Featured artists include the likes of Riyadh’s own Daniah Alsaleh, whose works centred on geometrical patterns lends itself well to digital interpretation, as well as multi-disciplinary Saudi artist Ayman Zedani who is known for his artistic range and installations. Representing the UAE, Asma Belhamar from Dubai is participating in the at Misk Art Institute, having previously exhibited her work across the UAE as well as at 1stdibs Gallery in New York.
According to the Misk Art Institute, “Tales of Nostalgia” explores our notion of the complexity of time through a “conversation about where we are, as a species, in our endless, intertwined relationship with time and technology.”
“Tales of Nostalgia” is on at Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Arts Hall until January 15 2023, but if you can’t make it to the Institute there is an option of a virtual exhibition available over at www.miskartinstitute.org.
