After a successful inaugural edition last year, Richard Mille is doubling down on its commitment to contemporary art in the Gulf region by once again presenting the coveted Richard Mille Art Prize ‘Art Here 2022’.
And as in 2021, Richard Mille is collaborating with Louvre Abu Dhabi for the second season of Art Here to explore the regional art scene with a focus on 10 visionary GCC-based artists juried by a judging panel of renowned art collectors, curators and critics.
It’s a wider reaching initiative this time around since last year’s event focused on UAE-based artists with the winner, Bahraini-American artist Nasser Alzayani, taking home a prize of $50,000. Art Here 2022 is now offering a bigger award of $60,000 for this year’s winner, with just one finalist selected as the recipient of the 2022 Richard Mille Art Prize.
“We are immensely proud to be inaugurating the second edition of Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here,” said Manuel Rabaté, Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi. “As the first universal museum in the Arab world, Louvre Abu Dhabi strives to provide a platform for artists to showcase their work and talent, fostering creativity, dialogue and diversity. The level of submissions that we have received from across the GCC are testament to the artistic energy present within the region.”
Running until February 19, 2023, at the Forum space of Louvre Abu Dhabi, Art Here 2022 showcases themes of ‘icon’ and ‘iconic’ by the following contemporary artists: Vikram Divecha, Simrin Mehra-Agarwal, Shaikha Al Mazrou, Rand Abdul Jabbar, Manal Al Dowayan, Elizabeth Dorazio, Dana Awartani, Ayman Zedani, Afra Al Dhaheri, and Zeinab Alhashemi.
