Liv. is a new banking entity powered by Emirates NBD. The majority of your banking is done through the liv. app. and this includes setting up a bank account as well.

Once you download the app from your device’s app store, you login, scan your emirates ID through the app, top up your liv. account and sit back. Local delivery service fetchr will then contact you within a day and drop off your brand new liv. debit card almost immediately.

The app’s interface is incredibly easy to use, you can set up your utility, mobile and salik accounts to a one-tap payment system. The app also allows you to transfer and receive money to and from your friends’ liv accounts.

The best part about the app is that it generates an account number, IBAN and Swift code, so transferring to and from any other bank account is possible. The liv. ATM cards work at all ATMs as well.

The app features a section powered by zomato that recommends restaurants near you. You can also avail of a few offers, such as 50 per cent off a Marina dinner cruise. There are more offers being added

You can also sync your fitness tracker to the liv app. Since the app is still quite new, nothing comes of this feature just yet. Perhaps we would see some form of fitness/savings tracking similar to its parent company’s Fitness account. Currently, it just serves as a step, distance and calorie tracker.

The only drawback that I found with the app is the extreme use of “down-with-it” lingo in its menus, social media posts and correspondence. Obviously aimed at millennials, but come on liv., tone it down a bit, be cool. We understand “normal talk” too.

To summarize, if you have a smartphone an internet connection and a valid Emirates ID – you can get a bank account for free. Check it out!
