Asked to name one dish from Lime Tree Cafe, one of Dubai’s original home-grown cafes, you’ll probably say carrot cake. It’s just about the most famous cake in town, even if it turned 15 last month. Now, it’s catching up with the times, and that means there’s now a gluten-free version.
While the benefits of eating gluten-free are disputed — unless you suffer from coeliac disease, like Lime Tree’s owner, Corinne Bowker, in which case, it’s a lifelong necessity — options without this wheat protein are popping up everywhere.
The Cafe’s gluten-free options will be available across all its three outlets (Jumeirah, Shaikh Zayed Road and Al Quoz), with a pop-up bakery running from May 25-28 from 8am-3.30am, at the Shaikh Zayed Road outlet. The full range of cakes, slices, muffins, cookies, crackers and breads will be on offer, as well as desserts such as triple-layer tiramisu, and chocolate goddess, wild berry and citrus cakes.
“When dining out with friends and family, it is often difficult to find a menu with more than one gluten-free option on it,” said Bowker in a statement. “We have always wanted to be a cafe destination that caters for everyone in the community regardless of likes, dislikes and allergies. Expanding our menu to include our new gluten-free range from the Gluten Free Bakery is in line with that vision. We don’t want our gluten intolerant customers to miss out — especially on cakes and the yummy stuff!”
Items can be pre-ordered and picked up from Lime Tree cafes.
