During this inaugural event, we will present and give away awards for over 20 categories including Best Actor, Best Actress, and a host of technical awards that celebrate excellence in Indian cinema.
This year, the Dubai Shopping Festival events roster includes a tribute to the Indian film industry, an official said.
"We are proud to present the first Global Indian Film Awards [GIFA] in Dubai," said Sameer Khan, vice-president of Global Events, the company organising the awards.
"During this inaugural event, we will present and give away awards for over 20 categories including Best Actor, Best Actress, and a host of technical awards that celebrate excellence in Indian cinema," Khan said.
Khan spoke at GIFA's launch event in Mumbai. Others present at the launch included Ajay Nair, CEO of Global Events; actors Sir Om Puri and Gulshan Grover; Firoz Nadiadwalla, the producer; and Umesh Mehra, the director.
"We are committed to making GIFA an internationally competitive and recognised event," said Jamal Makki, Head of Culture, Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF). Nominations for GIFA will be invited for films released in the Indian market during the period January to December 2004. Only artists performing in India are eligible for nominations.
As an official Dubai Shopping Festival event, GIFA will be held for three days from January 25 to 27.
