Abu Dhabi: The authentic Indian cuisine restaurant India Palace, is an institution of sorts for curry lovers in Abu Dhabi. The place enjoys a loyal customer base that has consistently grown over the years despite the number of Indian eateries springing up in the capital over the years.

The restaurant is packed with customers during dining hours and Emirati patronisers and other nationalities easily outnumber the Indian clientele here.

Its rose facade is extensively lit at night and stands as a true relic of the old-world charm and the opulence of the Moghul era. With such distinct features, it would be hard to miss the place when you’re passing Salam Street.

The interiors are opulent and smattered with artefacts from India. There is also a bangle stall inside the restaurant that sells ethnic Indian accessories and knick-knacks.

The restaurant is spacious and has private cabins offering privacy for families and couples.

We tried out Chicken Tinka — a fusion dish inspired by Chicken Satay. The chicken skewers were dipped in curry sauce instead of the regular peanut sauce and it was delicious. Tarah Tarah Ke Kebab — an assortment of non-vegetarian kebabs and Tandoori Lal Jinga were equally good. The kebabs were well marinated and juicy but the spices were toned down to suit all palettes.

Next we tried fluffy naans with Kadai Paneer for mains. The Kadai Paneer at India Palace is one of the best in town: the paneer (cottage cheese) just melts in your mouth and the kadai gravy which had a thick consistency and the right amount of spices went down well with the naans.

Following the main course we tried the Awadhi Chicken Biryani, a Lucknow speciality made with aromatic basmati rice and layered with chicken.

As we wrapped up an enjoyable dinner with some delicious Indian sweets, one thing was obvious. It is the winning combination of friendly and efficient staff, delicious food that is a cut above the rest, and the reasonable prices that makes Indian Palace still one of the most sought-after restaurants in town.
