This is very much the dashboard of MGN combining elements of other tabs in a simple to read custom page. On the left it contains your news feed - a combination of the tags on GulfNews.com that you are following. In the middle you'll find quick access to your most recently bookmarked stories, your recently added tags, and companies you may want to follow. Recommended tags are built up from looking at the tags you do follow, and examining the connections to other tags the stories they are tagged to have. For example, First Gulf Bank stories usually reference Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank as well, ADSM stories are usually also tagged to the DFM - and so on. In this way we hope to be making recommendations to you that fit your interests. Finally 'Home' also gives you a snapshot of your activity on MGN - the number of bookmarks you have, the number of tags you are following, the number of comments you have made, and how complete your profile is.
My Profile
My Profile is where you tell us who you are. Add your username and picture, where you are based, your contact details etc., so we can customise each page for you. Your profile allows us to build up a picture of you to serve more relevant content to you. Your contact details allow us to send you newsletters and other communications that are relevant, and where we have permissions to do so.
Preferences
Which page do you want to load first when you come to GulfNews.com - the homepage, the UAE News Page, our Sports homepage..?
The preferences tab is where you can record your preferences for the site, setting up preferences for the palette areas (what weather shows), your preferred financial markets, the preferred commodities you want to see, your favourite sports teams - and so on. The preferences page also allows you to sign up to future and present newsletters, and to our social media accounts...
Bookmarks
As you go through the site and see a story you want to go back to later, you'll now find an "Add to My Gulf News" below the headline and image. Simply click on the button and the story will be saved for future reading on MGN. From the bookmark tab you can read the stories, as well as email them to colleagues. There is also a delete option if your bookmarks become unmanageable.
My activity
Presently the My Activity tab records any comment you make across the site.
Favourite tags
While the Home tab contains an amalgamated list of all your tags, the Favourite Tags tab itself offers you the ability to filter tags you are following and narrow in on topics you are most interested in - be that people, companies, cities, teams, celebrities, leaders or sports players.
You also use the Favourite tags page to delete tags you no longer want to follow.
