On Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day, Pakistan Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi highlights the brotherly partnership that Pakistan and the UAE enjoy, complemented through diplomacy, trade and cultural ties

How do you view the current state of Pakistan-UAE bilateral relations, and what key sectors hold the most promise for future growth?

Pakistan and the UAE enjoy a deep, brotherly partnership that spans diplomacy, trade, investment, and culture. The UAE is our largest trading partner in the Middle East and the third largest globally; a testament to the strength of our ties. With frequent high-level visits reaffirming our shared vision, I see tremendous potential in shipping and logistics, banking and fintech, especially Islamic finance and digital remittances, mining and rare minerals, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, as well as railways and aviation. These are the sectors where we can truly unlock new opportunities for both nations.

With the UAE being one of Pakistan’s top trading partners, what new initiatives are being explored to further enhance trade, investment, and joint ventures between the two nations?

Our trade and investment relationship with the UAE is entering a new era. In the past three years alone, we’ve signed more than 30 MoUs and agreements in areas like port operations, food security, logistics, banking, and minerals. With trade already surpassing $10 billion, we are focusing on implementation and working closely with AD Ports under the SIFC platform and collaborating with DP World on the Karachi-Pipri Dedicated Freight Corridor and new economic zones. Both sides are determined to fast-track these projects and translate agreements into real, tangible outcomes.

The Pakistani community in the UAE plays a pivotal role in both economies. How does the embassy support their welfare, and what new opportunities exist for engaging this vibrant diaspora in Pakistan’s development?

The UAE is home to one of the largest Pakistani communities in the world and a vital source of remittances. We have worked hard to improve our services by introducing a new token system, a dedicated WhatsApp helpline, upgraded consular halls, online passport and NADRA submissions, appointment scheduling, and even home delivery options. Beyond services, we want our community to seize the incredible opportunities the UAE offers. Our Trade & Investment section, along with Pakistani business councils, is helping entrepreneurs and professionals thrive and contribute to Pakistan’s development.

Beyond trade, what efforts are being made to strengthen cultural diplomacy, tourism, and strategic collaborations that reflect the historic brotherhood between Pakistan and the UAE?

Our bond with the UAE is more than economic as it is rooted in shared history, traditions, and values. The people-to-people connection is the heart of this relationship. Pakistan has world-class tourism potential — from breathtaking mountains to ancient heritage sites and unmatched hospitality. We are working to attract more Emirati visitors to experience this firsthand. At the same time, we are expanding cultural diplomacy through sports, arts, and education exchanges to deepen mutual understanding and friendship.”

On this Pakistan Independence Day, what is your message to the Pakistani community in the UAE, and how do you envision Pakistan-UAE relations evolving in the next decade?

On this Independence Day, I call on the Pakistani community in the UAE to be active, positive contributors to both countries. Respect the laws, policies, and cultural norms of our host nation, and continue supporting the Year of Community 2025 declared by President His Highness Shaikh Mohamad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. I believe our partnership with the UAE will only grow stronger over the next decade, with new focus on high-value sectors, strategic investments, and shared prosperity that goes far beyond today’s trade figures.
